Welcome to Starfish Counselling Services:

Andrea Yeo is a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#4974) with the BCACC, a Child Interviewer for BC Hear the Child Society, a Secondary School Teacher with North Vancouver School District #44, a Certified Parenting Facilitator (#00116) and has her Masters of Education in Leadership and Counselling Degree.  She has worked with children, youth, families and couples in a counselling and public school setting for the past 25+ years.

It is Andrea's belief that all individuals have the potential to find peace, happiness and satisfaction in their lives; but may need guidance, self-discovery and the strengthening of skills to move forward through life more effectively. In Andrea's view, social disconnect, lack of self-awareness, trauma and ineffective communication is a common thread to feeling unfulfilled and frustrated and stuck. Individuals will be encouraged to find a sense of purpose, direction and contentment through self-discovery therapy.

Andrea has worked in the mental health field in various capacities, which has given her a wide array of experiences with different populations. Recently, Andrea's area of expertise has been with families in conflict, which led her to becoming a Child Interviewer and a Couples Counsellor. Andrea works extensively with individuals who experience anxiety and depression due to a myriad of unresolved issues.  Andrea has worked for Family Services of Greater Vancouver and the North Shore as a Youth Counsellor and Family Preservation Worker counselling high risk youth as well as families and couples with a variety of complex issues.  Andrea has been a professional high school teacher since 2003 focusing on topics such as: youth personal growth and development, career development, understanding the human psyche, personality, human rights, assertiveness skills, boundaries, LGBTQ issues, stress, depression and physical development through teaching Psychology, Social Justice, Mental Health and Career and Life Education courses. Andrea has facilitated several groups in topics such as: parenting, stress management, anger management, anti-bullying, social skills, parenting skills, sexual orientation and sexual health. Andrea has volunteered at Willingdon Closed Custody Centre for Youth to assist young people with their future plans after being released from custody. She has volunteered for the Salvation Army assisting residents of the Downtown Eastside and has volunteered on Humanitarian building trips to developing countries with youths seeking a life changing experience.

Through creative problem solving, caring intervention, encouragement, deep listening, goal setting, mutual respect, skill development and family constellation, individuals will be guided to find solutions to their issues and find peace and happiness in their lives. Andrea has experience working with individuals who have struggled with: anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, peer relations, self esteem, school problems, bullying, substance misuse, self harm, sibling conflict, parenting issues, sexual problems, couples conflict, communication skills, sexual orientation and career and educational decision making. From an Adlerian perspective you will learn to be more resilient, reduce your stress, have more satisfaction at home, school or work, increase healthy coping mechanisms and have more fulfilling relationships.
